paint my pictures pretty.

this past week, i stumbled upon the waterlogue app. i noticed it on instagram and made a mental note to check it out, then it was recommended on the car ride into work this morning and later i saw it mentioned on one of my favourite blogs. i played around with it this afternoon and oh, what fun!  have a look at the very random sampling of photos that you may recognise- waterlogue loved.

5 for freedom.

i was lucky enough to be asked to choose my 5 favourite products over at freedom furniture last week as part of their thursday inspiration post. it was quite tricky to choose only five, but really fun to narrow it down to items that work together (at least according to me, they do). i was drawn to most of these pieces based on my love for travel and colour. they either have an element of the exotic, handmade or a nice colour surprise. the lush leather reading chair is a stand out dream item and reminds me of Spain- it was an easy choice!

thank you, freedom x

happy birthday little sister!

TWENTY ONE!! woohoo - i love you xoxo

hangin' around this town. 2.

when i go home to Canada, one of my favourite places to visit is Regina, Saskatchewan; an artsy little cultural hub smack dab in the middle of the prairies. it's where most of my family is from, some of my favourite people live and also where i was born. it is home to some of the cutest, most unique houses, no little boxes made out of ticky tacky here- each one is different (at least in the cathedral area). you can tell that these homes are a source of pride to their owners as well, i always notice how cute their exteriors, porches and lawns are too. i posted about them, a couple of summers ago and have now captured some snaps in the snow. i even inadvertently snapped some of the same homes without even trying. you'll probably never go to Regina, so please enjoy this mini-tour thoroughly.

this is house i grew up in; i just had to photograph it next to another house to emphasise its adorable smallness.

the valen(time) difference.

much like every other holiday i've mentioned on here (birthday, christmas, thanksgiving, etc.), i'm always aware of celebrating it technically the day before i actually feel it. of course i knew it was valentine's day here in australia yesterday, but so many people i want to wish a happy valentine's day to are in north america, so there is a delay for me. it's a tricky one- and this year i'm working on living in the moment- ha!

anyway, i thought this photo of a waning valentine's heart would be appropriate. i love you- you can take that to the banksia (*leaf).

happy valentine's day!

i made cookies and hand-stitched dried leaves into heart shapes. i love valentine's day. all that's missing from this one is cinnamon hearts and a little treat on my seat at the kitchen table.

share the love.

i was happy to see that mr. jason grant's bondi pad was featured on another favourite seaside blog today, sfgirlbybay. i spotted a close up of my wire sign and a few other great shots that i hadn't seen before.

all in the family; homestead.

my uncle grew up in a beautiful old wooden farm house in the middle of the saskatchewan prairies. there was no indoor heating and he said he would sometimes wake up with frost on his face in the morning. one day, his father moved the family to a new home just a couple of kilometres away. they left most of their large possessions behind; mattresses, curtains, a sewing machine and organ are all exactly where they left them. my uncle still lives in the family house they moved into now, with my aunt and two cousins. they took me to see the old place while i was home this winter; where pigeons have now made their home in this dilapidated nest, there is no glass on any of the windows and everything was covered in snow. this was pure magic, you can't make a story like this up.
